ASUU STRIKE HAS GONE ON LONG ENOUGH – IT’S TIME FOR ACTION.

ASUU STRIKE HAS GONE ON LONG ENOUGH – IT’S TIME FOR ACTION.

Last week, I engaged in an online Twitter chat hosted by Al Jazeera’s “The Stream” about our lingering two-month Academic Staff of Universities Union (ASUU) strike.

Here are the three main points I raised on #ASUUchat @AJStream:

  1. The ASUU strike has gone on long enough: It is time for our Federal Government to act. The ASUU is striking due to the government’s failure to implement the 2009 agreement reached with the union. An agreement is an agreement. If higher education is truly a Nigerian priority then it is time to resolve this strike.
  2. However, the Federal Government cannot fund higher education alone: Universities must also diversify their funding streams by seeking private sector & alumni funding to become self-sustaining.
  3. Transparency & corruption also a problem: Appropriations must be transparent at the university level to ensure funds are being utilised properly.

It is time for the Federal Government and our universities to reform themselves by providing leadership through proper funding & transparency. The next generation of Nigerians are depending on it!

These are my concerns… but I am also very interested in hearing from you! Thanks.

You still remain the best his excellency.for sure you have the solution to Nigeria insecent education strike.education is the bedrock of any developmental agender any government that those not support Nigeria educational development those not support the growth of this nation.government has failed in its obligation, government is shy of its responsibilities in so many ways.government is not willing to make the sacrifice for nigeria education.we have seen how much sacrifice you have made in adamawa state to make the American university project come to reality.sacrifies, desire for growth and development, prioritizing education against all odds.

I sincerely wish you were Nigeria President…For a leader in Nigeria to even think of establishing a University in his country..You are really a good man..God Bless You.

Sir, I think the 3 points you raised are pretty cool but to my own best opinion, the second might be a bit difficult. It’s so pathetic that the president who is to preside over the affairs and welfare of Nigerians is the one going about looking for every means of winning the 2015 election. There is no doubt as to the fact that the money is available but the inexperienced president won’t know how to go about it. To me, it is untill we get the first thing right which is #politics before other things can follow. The standard of education in Ghana is way better than ours because they have responsible leaders who placed priority on education. There is always more to say but I guess I rest for now. Thanks

  • pls ASUU 4 ALLAH sake open d universities 4 our kids!!!
