Remembering John F. Kennedy

Remembering John F. Kennedy

Fifty years ago this weekend, I was seventeen years old and a student in secondary school when I heard the tragic news that would change the lives of millions of people across the globe. I was shocked to hear that the greatest President of my lifetime had been shot dead on a street in Texas.

President John Fitzgerald Kennedy efforts towards peace, diplomacy and international exchange fostered my own ambitions and continue to motivate my dream to put Nigeria on a healthy path towards peace and tolerance.

My childhood schools benefited from the assistance of Peace Corps volunteers from the United States whose mission towards world peace and democracy motivated my own ambitions through the years.

The whole world can benefit by taking this day to remember what President Kennedy really stood for, and the change towards peace that he may have realized if his time had not been so inhumanely cut short.

Your Excellency, you have said it all but can we the younger generation be proud of you people today as you said about Kenedy? What are those legacies we may remember you as one time leaders of our generation especially as politicians? Is it the rigging of elections or imposition of those you people (Politicians) called your political loyal boys? Is it the high rate of employment or the widening of the gap between the rich and the poor? Or is it the instsbility and professional corrupt in the Country? Or is it the favouritism and God fatherism created by some of you where the son of the poor man like you(refer to your backgroud) will never see the light of the day? My problem with some you is that you people are good making refernces to some of these leaders but never uses their records of achievement as a source of challenge for you make sacifice in order to equally write your names in gold like those peppople. Infact such record s are achievable when one realised that such opportunity is just to serve humanity and after that one must be accountable to God. The kenedys of our Like Sardauna, Zik etc also left behind such footprints or legacies but you people refused to build on it. …Comr Anto…
